"Prüfungsleistung Hausarbeit" hand-in written assessment in the final semester before registration for the "Staatsexamensprüfung" state exam

"Hausarbeit" hand-in written assessment in the last semester before registering for the "Staatsexamensprüfung" state examination - Information for all students in modularized teacher training courses

In the Teacher Training at Regional Schools degree program, a "Hausarbeit" hand-in written assessment, a term paper and a presentation must be completed in the specializations English Linguistics I, Cultural Studies I and Literary Studies I. The standard examination dates are in the 7th, 8th and 9th semesters. If the processing times for the students and the correction deadlines for the teachers specified in the study and examination regulations for term papers are adhered to, it is not possible to register for the state examination in English for Teaching at Regional Schools on time if the term paper examination is not chosen until the 9th semester or immediately before the registration for the state examination planned for the next semester. You must therefore ensure that you only select the "Prüfungsleisteung Klausur" written examination or "Referat" presentation in the semester before registering for the "Staatsexamensprüfung" state examination.

According to the examination and study plan, the specializations English Linguistics I, Cultural Studies I and Literary Studies I do not lie directly before the state examination in the Teacher Training Course for Grammar Schools ("Studiengang Lehramt an Gymnasien"). However, please note the problem described above if you have a different individual study plan.

Successful completion of required assignments in lectures

Successful completion of assignments in lectures as a prerequisite for admission to module examinations - Information for all students in BA and modularized teacher training ("modularisierten Lehramtsstudiengängen") courses on the implementation of the study and examination regulations
(Implementation of the SPSO from summer semester 2015)

Situation: In the current study regulations for modularized teaching degrees and BA, a considerable proportion of the work in the subject modules (literature, linguistics and cultural studies; subject didactics) must be completed in lectures (8 lectures in total), which serve to underpin the in-depth seminar-based study of selected subject content with an overview of history, theories and concepts. To date, the knowledge to be acquired in these courses has only been assessed in a few cases through module examinations (in the modules Fundamentals of Linguistics I and II, the associated lectures are part of the module examination). The importance of such overview knowledge was not sufficiently taken into account in many cases, although the “completion of work assignments” is one of the prerequisites for the module examinations according to the SPSO.

Implementation of the “completion of work assignments” in lectures as a prerequisite for admission to module examinations: In order to achieve a reflection of the teaching content of lectures, from summer semester 2015 onwards, work tasks will increasingly be set in lectures, the acceptable completion of which is a prerequisite for admission to a corresponding module examination.

Form: These assignments can be set during lectures, e.g. as (written) reflections and summaries of lecture sections, portfolios, etc., or towards the end of the semester, e.g. as a multiple-choice test.

Information: The lecturers are obliged to announce the form and scope of the assignments in good time at the beginning of the semester, at the latest in the 2nd week of the semester, so that students know from the beginning of the semester what they have to do in advance and can schedule the assignments. Students are obliged to inform themselves about these tasks.

Timing: From summer semester 2015, such assignments will already be set in the lectures and their completion will be recorded (Student Secretariat - "Studentensekretariat"); from winter semester 2015/16, each registration for module examinations will be checked to see whether the preliminary work has been completed in a corresponding lecture (1 lecture per module examination). Students can acquire preliminary work for a module examination in a module that contains a lecture in advance for upcoming semesters, e.g. in SoSe 2015 for WiSe 2015/16, or attend a corresponding lecture in parallel to a seminar. When registering for module examinations, from winter semester 2015/16 onwards, lecturers will check whether the preliminary work for the respective module has been completed in an associated course as part of the two-stage examination prerequisite check.

Regulations on the recognition of study achievements completed abroad

Regulations on the recognition of study achievements completed abroad

Who is responsible? See notice board and homepage of the IAA.

When studying at a foreign university, academic achievements can be recognized as proof of participation and performance if they meet the requirements of the study regulations that apply to the Bachelor's, Master's or teaching degree courses in English at the University of Rostock.

For a certificate of achievement with a term paper, students must present one or more papers of the total scope required for a proseminar certificate ("Proseminarschein") or main seminar certificate ("Hauptseminarschein") in the study regulations applicable to them. Participation in an Applied Language ("Sprachpraxis") course can be recognized with a certificate of achievement if written papers (annotated or graded) are available that meet the requirements applicable at the IAA in terms of scope and level. The grade must be at least “sufficient” ("Ausreichend").

Lectures or courses in which no assessed work ("Leistung") has been completed can be recognized with certificates of attendance ("Teilnahmescheinen") for the optional subject. A passed “Cambridge Proficiency Examination” can be recognized with a certificate of attendance (2 SWS).

Academic achievements will only be recognized if the corresponding certificates (e.g. academic transcript, student record, etc.) are submitted in the original and at least a copy of the work. Furthermore, it is necessary to document participation in courses at the foreign university as precisely as possible: Indication of the course title, the number of hours, any final exams, presentations, term papers, essays or other forms of examination as well as the signature of the teacher and stamp of the institution abroad for individual achievements that are not explicitly listed in the Academic Record (the IAA's internal form can be found here). Evaluations that are only available as forwarded e-mails will not be considered for recognition.

Students are obliged to contact those responsible for recognition at the IAA as soon as possible after completing their stay abroad or after changing universities in order to initiate the recognition of their academic achievements.

Information from the "Lehrerprüfungsamt M-V" Teacher Examinations Office for trainee teachers (on the recognition of academic achievements at foreign universities and their effects on the standard period of study)

Trainee teachers who are studying abroad and wish to take a leave of absence for this period are requested to observe the following regulations: If coursework completed by student teachers at a foreign university is claimed and recognized as credits or semester hours in the examination subject English when registering for the "Erste Staatsprüfung" ("First State Examination"), the semester in question - regardless of whether the student was on leave of absence from the University of Rostock for this period - will be counted by the Teacher Examinations Office as a semester of study and credited towards the standard period of study. Study periods abroad can also only be entered in the certificate for the "Erste Staatsprüfung" ("First State Examination") if they are credited towards the standard period of study.

The Teacher Examination Office (http://www.bildung-mv.de/lehrer/lehrerpruefungsamt/) can provide binding information on all matters relating to the organization of studies and examinations.

(Excerpt; as of 30.03.2017)

Dr. Wallat is responsible for checking the proof of training-relevant stays abroad for English teacher training students.

"Ausbilding" training-relevant stay abroad and proof of other foreign languages according to § 20 LehPrVO 2012
When studying modern foreign languages, a training-relevant stay abroad should be completed. It serves the purpose of expanding students' intercultural communicative competence.

It must be completed in a country with a corresponding official language over a period of at least three months (as a whole or in several parts).

A stay abroad that took place no longer than 3 years ago at the beginning of the degree program can be credited.

The educational relevance of a stay abroad is given by

- studying at a college or university
- language assistant work
- an internship abroad
- Language courses in a country with a corresponding official language
- Au pair work (before or during your studies)
- attending school in a country with a corresponding official language (6 months or more)
- Work in a country with a corresponding official language

When registering for the "Erste Staatsprüfung für Lehrämter"  ("First State Examination for Trainee Teachers"), the period of time spent abroad and the work/activity abroad must be verified by the academic advisor1 (e.g. flight tickets, employment contracts, references).

Further foreign languages at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages are proven by school certificates, in particular the "Abitur" certificate (at least three consecutive years of language lessons), or by language certificates from further education institutions when registering for the "Erste Staatsprüfung für Lehrämter" ("First State Examination for Trainee Teachers") at the "Lehrerprüfungsamt M-V" ("M-V Trainee Teacher Examinations Office") (applies to modern foreign languages and history).

If you are unsure about the recognition of your stay abroad and/or foreign languages, you can seek advice from the "Lehrerprüfungsamt M-V" ("M-V Trainee Teacher Examinations Office") before registering for the "Erste Staatsprüfung" ("First State Examination").
